Information of the Press Service Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan on summoning the Ambassador of the French Republic to the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Ministry
On October 3, 2022, Zacharie Gross, the French ambassador to Azerbaijan, was summoned to the Ministry. Diplomatic note of protest was presented to the Ambassador regarding another act of vandalism committed by radical Armenian groups against the Azerbaijani embassy in France on October 1, 2022.
The recent increase of the number of attacks committed by radical Armenian groups living in France against the diplomatic missions of the Republic of Azerbaijan in France was noted.
It was brought up that another such attack took place at night on October 1, 2022, when a group of radical Armenians threw red paint and wrote insulting words against Azerbaijan on the building of the Embassy.
The incident occurred as a result of the French government’s inaction in taking the necessary measures towards ensuring the security of the Embassy and its personnel. It was noted that demands were repeatedly expressed on various levels towards relevant state institutions of France in this regard.
It was stated that the failure of the French government as the host state, to ensure the security of the diplomatic missions of the Republic of Azerbaijan at an adequate level, is considered a neglect of its obligations under the 1961 Vienna Convention on diplomatic relations by Azerbaijan.
French Republic was requested to organize the security of the diplomatic missions of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Azerbaijan Cultural Center, to thoroughly investigate the acts of violence committed so far and bring the perpetrators to justice, to alleviate the damage caused to the Embassy's building as well as to ensure the appropriate compensation of the damage.
French ambassador expressed regret for the incident and noted that the appeal of Azerbaijan will be delivered to the relevant institutions of France.
